Easton Cowan wins Memorial Cup MVP in final game with London Knights

Easton Cowan was named MVP of the 2025 Memorial Cup as the London Knights defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-1 in the final.
Cowan recorded the game-winning goal, was named the game’s first star and took home tournament MVP honours after recording three goals and seven points in five games.
“Just unreal. I’m kind of speechless. What an effort, what a team we had. I’m so proud of this team. Sucks it’s my last game as a Knight but I’m so glad I got to do it with these guys and win a championship,” Cowan said post-game.
Cowan capped off a tremendous major junior career where won an OHL MVP, OHL Playoff MVP and two OHL titles. This was Cowan’s goal all along, after the Knights were upended in last year’s Memorial Cup Final by the Saginaw Spirit.
During the second period, Cowan crashed the net and tapped home a feed from Sam O’Reilly to give London a 2-0 lead, which stood as the game-winner. London jumped out to a 4-0 lead, before Medicine Hat’s phenom Gavin McKenna scored his team’s lone goal in the third period.
Cowan’s accomplishment comes nine years after Mitch Marner won Memorial Cup MVP as a member of the Knights. Marner was Cowan’s idol growing up, and is a pending free agent this summer.
Cowan was celebrating well into the night and posted a photo with the Cup captioned ‘Goodknight Londo’ on his Instagram story. It’s certainly well-deserved as he won every award possible for the Knights during his decorated major junior career. Toronto selected Cowan with the 28th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.
Cowan is now cemented as a major junior icon, with his place in history firmly etched in place. Now it’s incumbent upon the 2o-year-old to win a roster spot at Maple Leafs’ training camp next fall, as he’s a very exciting part of an uncertain future for the organization.
