The three-day holiday break is nearly upon us.
But first, the Leafs must contend with the NHL leading Winnipeg Jets in the annual next gen game.
It was another jammed pack weekend in Leaf Nations with plenty of newsworthy items to discuss. We kicked off the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take by keeping it light and dissecting the son vs. dad fight in the Saskatchewan Senior League from Saturday night. Utterly ridiculous. Speaking of which, Auston Matthews re-aggravated his upper body injury on Friday night against Buffalo. Naturally, we broke it all down and talked about the next steps. They should shut him down, no?
Then, we got into another weekend split. After hammering the woeful Sabres in Buffalo 6-3, Toronto dropped a 6-3 decision to the New York Islanders on home ice on Saturday night. William Nylander was good, but that’s about it. Furthermore, we discussed Toronto’s defensive identity and if they’re losing it a bit here. Lastly, we broke down Morgan Rielly’s response to the Tage Thompson hit on Matthews. It was great to see a response. It’s always Rielly. What a leader.
Meantime, brought to you by Charm Diamond Centres, Leafs prospect Easton Cowan dropped by the show once again. Once again, he’s having another strong season for the OHL’s London Knights. On top of that, Cowboy figures to play a prominent role for Team Canada as they look for Gold in Ottawa at the World Juniors.
That will do it for LIVE shows until we return on Friday, December 27th where The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta will fill in for Jay Rosehill as my co-host. That said, we will be dropping a Christmas Roundtable on Christmas morning. It will feature me, Rosey, Carter Hutton, and Zack Phillips, so be on the lookout for that!
