Well, that was your classic trap game.
The Leafs have finally lost a game on Prime Monday Night Hockey. Additionally, the Leafs have finally lost a game this season when leading after two.
At the end of the day, they got a point —at least, so whatever.
Carter Hutton filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. After giving our initial thoughts on the surprising shootout loss to San Jose, we talked some trade deadline, too. Most specifically, Hutts gave the players’ perspective on this time of year. It can be an exciting time for some, and an anxiety ridden one for others.
Thanks to Tim Hortons, we offered up a thorough recap of the 3-2 shootout loss. For the most part, the Leafs looked lethargic and fatigued. It wasn’t pretty their best outing. That said, they’re still 5-0-1 in their last six games. Furthermore, they potted two power play goals, which is always a positive development. Meantime, Calle Jarnkrok made his season debut —playing primarily on the fourth line. On top of that, Timothy Liljegren made his return to Scotiabank Arena. And yes, he got a bit of a tribute during the first TV timeout! Any way you slice it, there’s no reason to dwell on this game. The Leafs will visit Vegas tomorrow night to kick off their three-game road trip.
After that, thanks to Charm Diamond Centres, NHL Insider (Sportsnet) Elliotte Friedman dropped by the show to tee up Toronto’s trade deadline plans. We talked Mikko Rantanen, both Schenn brothers, Scott Laughton, and who could potentially be in play for the Maple Leafs. Furthermore, Friedge hit on the Tavares/Marner situations, too.
The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta will be in for Jay Rosehill on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. In addition to previewing Leafs/Golden Knights, we’ll continue to talk trades, trades, and more trades.
