Former Leafs great Dave Andreychuk made it into the Hall of Fame today, causing people everywhere including some of our own writers to debate whether he was fully worthy of making it.
Andreychuk played four years in Toronto, though topped 65 games played just once. His best year came in 1993-94, where he scored 53 goals and hit 99 points to tie a career high. After leaving Toronto, he hit 50 points just once again despite playing for 10 more seasons.
He did captain Tampa Bay to a Stanley Cup in 2004, though he scored just one goal in the playoffs and 39 points in the regular season. For many, he’s actually remembered best for his days as a Buffalo Sabre, where he played from 1982 until he was traded from Buffalo with Daren Puppa and a first round pick in the 1993 draft that ended up being Kenny Jonsson to Toronto Maple Leafs for Grant Fuhr and future considerations. Fuhr played just 61 games for the Sabres. Good trade, I’d say!
Also inducted this year were these fine gentlemen and one lady.
The only notable snub of the day went to Alexander Mogilny, who hasn’t played since 2006.
NOT in the HHOF Class of 2017: Daniel Alfredsson, Jeremy Roenick, Alexander Mogilny.
Andreychuk finished his career with 640 goals and 649 assists in 1639 games.
See you next year, HHOF! Or at the Hall of Fame game later this fall. Whichever you prefer.
