<p>Leafs goalie Frederik Andersen is officially out as one of the three netminders for Team Europe at the World Cup of Hockey after the injury he suffered during an <a href="http://theleafsnation.com/2016/9/2/report-andersen-injured-in-olympic-qualifying-game">Olympic qualifying game</a> last week, <a href="https://twitter.com/TimWharnsby/status/772819361371394048">Tim Wharnsby of CBC Sports</a> reports.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s too bad for Andersen, who must have been looking forward to the opportunity to represent</p>
<p><strike>his country</strike></p>
<p>somebody at the World Cup. Competing with Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss, he would have had a solid shot at coming away with the starter&#8217;s role.</p>
<p>No word on how this effects his availability with the Leafs, as we&#8217;re</p>

<p>how serious the injury is. Hopefully he&#8217;ll be ready for either the start of camp or at some point during it before the regular season gets under way. In any event, Andersen will have the chance to fully recover from his injury instead of playing through it and risking further damage.</p>
<p>Andersen&#8217;s spot on Team Europe will be taken by Washington Capitals goalie Philipp Grubauer.</p>

<p>So, he&#8217;ll likely miss the start of camp but figures to be able to get some preseasion action in ahead of the Leafs&#8217; season opener against Ottawa on October 12th.</p></p>
