This morning, the Leafs made an unsurprising transaction, calling up Garret Sparks after Frederik Andersen left last night’s game with an injury.
Sparks has been the definition of lights out in the AHL this season, setting a franchise record for career victories at 72 (now 73) while giving up just 61 goals in 35 appearances on the back of a .936 save percentage to go along with five shutouts.
What’s unfortunate for Sparks in this scenario is that he’s unlikely to see any immediate game time. He played (and won) last night for the Marlies, which means he’s likely a little more slightly fatigued than Curtis McElhinney, who played about half the game last night in replacement of Andersen. From TSN’s Kristen Shilton last night:
Hearing now the plan is for #Leafs to recall Garret Sparks and have him back-up Curtis McElhinney tomorrow in Buffalo
We’ll update you with more info as it becomes available.
