The day has finally arrived – Toronto Maple Leafs hockey is back. It’s not quite the real thing, but the Maple Leafs will kick off their preseason with a visit to Ottawa to take on the Senators, which is about as much as you can ask for in terms of a preseason game.
Because the start of NHL preseason coincides with the end of the MLB season, today’s game will be streamed on Sportsnet One, while Sportsnet Ontario picks up the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals. If you’re looking to listen to the game, TSN 1050 will be streaming it on the radio starting at 3:00 pm.
It’s unknown what the Maple Leafs will be doing in terms of a lineup, but certain pairs throughout the forward group have already been established, which can be referred back to before the Leafs ice their lineup. Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies have been skating together, which is no surprise, same with John Tavares and William Nylander. Dakota Joshua and Nicolas Roy, a pair of new acquisitions, have also been skating together on what many believe will be the Maple Leafs’ third line to start the season.
It will be interesting to see who Craig Berube decides to put in the lineup for today’s game. Easton Cowan has been turning heads at camp and will likely get as much opportunity as anybody to prove that he belongs in the NHL, but there’s ample competition for jobs up front and it’s far from a sure thing for anybody outside of the core forwards.
Puckdrop for today’s game is at 3:00pm eastern time on Sportsnet One (TV) and TSN 1050 (Radio).
