Jay Rosehill doesn’t make much of Sam Lafferty’s hot start in Vancouver: Leafs Morning Take

Guess what? The Leafs play an actual hockey game tomorrow.
Crazy, right?
To be fair, Toronto’s light schedule has been a blessing in disguise for Jay Rosehill and me. We’ve had a chance to discuss some hard-hitting topics —like Shohei Ohtani to Toronto. Imagine if that happens? Furthermore, I spun that whole soap opera into a conversation about Connor McDavid and how he could potentially hit the open market in the summer of 2026. Imagine what that would be like?
Also, in the opening block of the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take, we broke down Sam Lafferty’s hot start in Vancouver. The fellas over at Canucks Army have been trolling Toronto’s decision to move on from the 28-year-old just prior to the start of the regular season. Personally, I think it’s way too early to make a proclamation —one way or another.
Presented by Door Dash, The Appetizer focused on the latest from Maple Leafs practice. Ilya Samsonov is still dealing with an illness so it looks like veteran Martin Jones, who was recalled from the Marlies on Wednesday, will likely back-up Joseph Woll on Thursday night in Ottawa. Additionally, Timothy Liljegren is back skating but there’s still no timetable for a possible return.
Meantime, thanks to the Wendy’s Daily Faceoff Survivor, we talked about Leafs prospects Fraser Minten and Easton Cowan being invited to Team Canada’s World Junior selection camp next week in Oakville. Steven Ellis, Daily Faceoff’s Prospect Analysis, made a cameo appearance to handicap the chances of both players cracking the roster.
Lastly, as we try to do every Wednesday, we dissected the up-to-date Atlantic Division standings. Suffice it is to say, the Leafs need to keep winning.
Join us on Thursday at 11 AM ET as we preview the second instalment of the Battle of Ontario. Plus, we’ll be joined by a very special guest.
