You can make it seven straight victories over the Dallas Stars for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Weirdly, for some reason, Max Domi and Nick Robertson seem to own them, too, which is hilarious.
Birthday boy Carter Hutton filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by discussing his big day and what he plans to do with it. With that in mind, we talked about the holiday season and how it’s the simple gifts in life that make us happy now. Cheers to Hutts!
After that, we recapped the 5-3 win in Dallas. All in all, the Leafs put forth a gutsy effort, one that was highlighted by a monster performance by the third line and Joseph Woll. Furthermore, the newly formed trio of McMann, Domi, and Robertson combined for three goals and one assist. It goes without saying but that was a welcome sight! As mentioned, Woll was super good as well making 36 saves for the victory. That was a big win against a legitimate Stanley Cup contender! Furthermore, we weighed in on the $35-million top line, and if there’s staying power. They had an up and down first game together. William Nylander scored two goals, but Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner were a combined dash-4. We’ll see how long this lasts.
Meantime, brought to you by Charm Diamond Centres, long-time NHL broadcaster and TV Producer John Shannon dropped by the show. In addition to getting his thoughts on Toronto’s 5-3 win in Dallas, we touched on Nick Robertson’s future, John Tavares’ red-hot start, the big 3 playing together, Anthony Stolarz’s injury, and the upcoming NHL trade freeze. Spoiler: He doesn’t expect the Leafs to make a deal anytime soon.
Then, we answered the Great Clips inbox question of the week. Gary K. in our chat asked if we think the new third line is legit, or just a stop game? Hutts is a believer. On the other hand, I’m not as optimistic.
