According to Brad Treliving, a DNA change is needed in Toronto.
That was probably the most important information to come from the general manager’s end of season podium.
Other than that, there was not much else that was very groundbreaking about his media availability.
David Pagnotta, who was LIVE on location at the Leafs practice facility for Treliving’s presser, filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Obviously, we kicked off the show by giving our initial thoughts on what Treliving had to say. Once again, aside from the DNA change comments, he was very non-committal on both the Marner and Tavares fronts. Reading the tea leaves, though, it really does seem like at least one – if not both – won’t be back next season.
Additionally, Treliving referenced Toronto’s inability to rise up in critical moments. Effectively, he acknowledged what we already knew. Furthermore, he went on to circle Game 3 as a monumental moment in the Florida series. He’s right, too. There’s been a lot of talk about Game 5 and 7, but what about blowing two separate two goal leads in Game 3 in Sunrise? He said that game and series will stick with him for a long time.
On top of all that, Pagnotta dished on the latest surrounding Marner, Tavares, and Knies. On Marner, he broke down who could be in the mix if the pending UFA winger elects to hit the open market on July 1. Spoiler: A lot of teams.
Courtesy of GRETA BAR YYZ, John Shannon of the 100% Hockey podcast with Millard and Shannon dropped by the show. As per usual, he brought some spicy hot takes. Firstly, we got his thoughts on what Treliving had to say. If it were up to him, Shannon would go scorched earth with this thing. He even suggested that he would think long and hard about trading Auston Matthews. Next, we talked about DNA change. Naturally, that got us to Sam Bennett. Shannon doubled down on his comments from Sekeres and Price earlier this week when he suggested that it come down to Toronto and Florida for Bennett. Lastly, Shannon spoke about Keith Pelley, whom he knows very well.
For the CRISPI HOT TAKE OF THE DAY, presented by the Ninja Crispi 4-in-1 Portable Glass Air Fryer, Producer Vick thinks that the Leafs will eventually fill Brendan Shanahan’s position as team president when they hire Doug Armstrong next summer.
Jay Rosehill will be back in the mix for the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Be sure to join us at 11 AM as Rosey weighs in on what Treliving had to say. Also, Ben Danford – one of Toronto’s top prospects – will drop by the show.
