Keith Primeau Says He Grew Up a Leafs Fan, Thrilled by Cayden’s Toronto Opportunity: Leafs Morning Take
By Nick Alberga

Final preparations are underway for the Toronto Maple Leafs as they get set to host the rival Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night at Scotiabank Arena in the season opener.
With that in mind, unfortunately, the McDavid to Toronto hype will have to be put on hold for a few years. That’s because the Oilers captain re-upped for two more seasons on Monday morning at a ridiculous average annual value of $12.5 million. And so, the next opportunity for the boyhood Leafs fan to come home will be July 1st, 2028, which is precisely 998 days away. Start the countdown, baby! Ironically enough, Auston Matthews could potentially be a free agent that summer as well. Same agent, too. Hmm.
Obviously, that’s where the conversation started on the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. After that, made possible by Uber Eats, we jumped into all the roster news. Firstly, on Monday, the Leafs claimed Sammy Blais (Montreal) and Cayden Primeau (Carolina) off waivers. As expected, especially following the Primeau news, the Leafs released veteran netminder James Reimer from his PTO. The writing has been on the wall since Reimer’s surprisingly came into camp on September 26th. Even with the Woll news, the move didn’t make sense. Speak of which, we talked about Brad Treliving not really providing much of an update on Woll. Let’s hope he’s back soon! Looks like the crease will be a big topic of focus until he is —that’s for sure.
Then, we welcomed in former NHLer and captain Keith Primeau to the show. Keith dished on his son Cayden, who as mentioned, was picked up on waivers by the Maple Leafs. Furthermore, Primeau spoke about his son’s progression and joy of being able to potentially play in Toronto (Keith’s from nearby Whitby). On top of that, Keith talked about his experience playing with Craig Berube in Philadelphia. He also disclosed that he knows Brad Treliving a bit, too. Lastly, Keith told a really good story about his career where he technically almost became a Leaf.
All avenues will be covered on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Zack Phillips will be by to help get you set for the opener. Additionally, James Reimer will drop by the podcast.
