The callup is a bit of a strange one, as pointed out by Skinny Fish of PPP. Since the Leafs don’t play until Thursday, the Leafs are essentially costing themselves unneccessary money under the cap. Trade speculation is natural around this time (as well as an unknown injury), but the true reason for the callup should be known soon.
