This morning, Brendan Shanahan finally announced the decision of the Leafs new General Manager. After the contract of Lou Lamiorello expired and was not renewed, the question of who the next team’s GM would be was left unanswered at first. Now, the decision has been made:
This has obviously been the plan since Day 1, to hire Dubas as the assistant GM, give Lou the reigns for a short time to give Dubas NHL experience in management, and then let him take over. Dubas did a great job in conjunction with Mark Hunter when the Leafs hadn’t brought Lamiorello on yet, and Leafs fans should expect more of the same.
The Leafs now boast the second youngest GM in the league, with Dubas (age 32) only 4 years older than Coyotes General Manager John Chayka, the youngest GM in NHL history when he took the job at 26.
