Leafs fire Pro Scouting Head Steve Kasper, Dir. of Player Development Jim Hughes, Possibly Others

Apr 12, 2015, 14:19 EDTUpdated:
The Toronto Maple Leafs may have dropped a huge HR bomb this morning in firing Dave Nonis, Peter Horachek, and three others, but they don’t appear to be done yet. According to Mark Spector of Sportsnet, they have also fired Director of Professional Scouting Steve Kasper.
Kasper was hired by the Leafs in September of 2009. His time here was mostly spent under the radar, as proven by the fact that our lead photo is him playing for the Los Angeles Kings in the early 1990s. While he didn’t speak much to the media over his time here, an interview with our friends at Maple Leafs Hot Stove shows a man who was very pro-eyeballs, pretty anti-statistics, and a backer of the likes of Dave Bolland and David Clarkson.
At this time, there doesn’t appear to be any news regarding fellow pro scouts Mike Penny, Rob Cowie, or Tom Watt, though Sportsnet 590’s Ryan Fabro is reporting that as many as eighteen scouts may have been fired. On the Amateur side of things, Damien Cox does not believe that director Dave Morrison is one of them, which, given the proximity to the draft, makes sense.
