According to their official PR outlet, the Leafs have placed Nikita Soshnikov on the Injured Reserve. In a corresponding roster move, the team has recalled Kasperi Kapanen from the Toronto Marlies.
Soshnikov was recalled back on Nov. 14 because he had a clause in his contract that allowed him to return to Russia if he wasn’t playing at the NHL level at the time. Through just three games of action with the Leafs, Soshnikov hasn’t been able to find his footing, and doesn’t have any points. He also owns a team-low 18.2 Corsi For percentage at even strength during those three games.
Kapanen has also gone pointless in three games with the Leafs this season. But with the Marlies, Kapanen has been effective, notching eight goals and four assists in 16 games.
The Leafs are set to play eight of their next nine games on the road leading up to the new year.
