The Maple Leafs are 2-0-1 to start the season and with that, star centre Auston Matthews has earned himself the Third Star of the Week title with his performances during those three games.
In the first three games of the season, Matthews has been able to score five goals with no assists. But who needs assists when you’re making yourself known as someone that could potentially break franchise records by the time spring rolls around.
His 16 shots on goal also leads the entire NHL in that category.
Matthews continues this trend of starting the season extremely hot. Just in the season-opening game, he has nine goals and 10 points in the four debut games he has been a part of.
The 22-year-old regresses towards his average during the season, but this rampant start to his 2019-20 season has given him a total of 116 goals and 210 points through the first 215 games to his career as a Maple Leaf. Maybe this time, he’ll just score 100 goals and break the all-time record, why not.
