Was that the biggest goal of Mitch Marner’s career?
That’s the question being asked in the wake of Canada’s 4-3 OT win against Sweden on Wednesday night in Montreal to kick off the inaugural 4 Nations Face-Off. Marner took a drop pass from Sidney Crosby and ripped one past Filip Gustavsson to give Canada’s the all-important second point.
All in all, it was a jam-packed Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take as Carter Hutton filled in for Jay Rosehill once again as co-host. We wasted no time getting into things as brought to you by Greta Bar,  Daily Faceoff’s Matt Larkin joined us right off the bat from Montreal to break down the opener.
After that, we continued to break things down. Sidney Crosby notched three assists while Canada needed just 10 seconds of power play time to connect. It was so damn cool to see all these legends snapping it around together. Of course, I had Hutts dissect Jordan Binnington’s performance. He went as far as to say that he would go with Adin Hill on Saturday night against the United States. Meantime, after the game, Shea Theodore was ruled out for the rest of the tournament. He hurt his wrist in the second period. It goes without saying but this is a big moment for Travis Sanheim. Speaking of which, it was a quiet night for William Nylander. Ditto for Marner —prior to scoring the OT winner.
Then, Mike Richter, the M.V.P of the 1996 World Cup stopped by the show. In case you missed it, Mike was on the ice Wednesday night at the Bell Centre for the pre-game ceremony. We got his thoughts on his experience doing that, chatting with Auston Matthews, and what it means to play for your country.
Jay Rosehill will be back in the mix for the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us at 11 AM ET as we recap the USA/Finland game. Additionally, we’ll preview Saturday night’s clash between Canada and the United States. Also, Hockey Hall of Famer Chris Pronger will drop by the show.
