Monday Mailbag: Tuesday edition

Feb 27, 2018, 17:02 EST
The Leafs played last night and also were allegedly in the mix for a bunch of trades until only a few hours before gametime, so we didn’t think it was fair to toss you a mailbig in the mix of it all.
Anyway, it’s now Tuesday and here’s the mailbag with a bunch of random questions from you folks.
It’d have to be Nylander, no? We’ve hooted and hollered all year about locking up Nylander long-term and whether you sign him for two, six, eight years? But with his entry-level contract expiring this year as he’s on pace for a second consecutive 60-point year, there’s considerable reason to believe his camp would like to bet on William’s improvement and go for a two-year deal rather than extending him long-term. It’d benefit the Leafs in their ability to add in the next few seasons if they keep the dollar value lower, but at the same time there’s also a chance he’s just looking to settle in and land that big paycheck any way he can get it.
Other than Nylander, there really isn’t a young player in the situation to go for a bridge deal just yet (maybe Marner a year from now).
Turtlenecks are always allowed. We a turtleneck team now.
When do the Leafs get Erik Karlsson?
Likely never, but just for fun, let’s say it happens on the draft floor.
Thoughts on clean shaven Plekanec
As long as he scores at least once in the playoffs with his new beard, couldn’t care less about his regular season facial hair.
We had this question recently, but with all the teams in the league. If we had to nail it to Atlantic Division teams, Ottawa and Detroit are immediately out of the question due to their rivalry. Florida is currently still a bubble team with some strong offensive talents, and seem like they could be just a few pieces away from being very competitive again. Tampa and Boston can’t acquire him unless they pull some sorcery, and Detroit is just in cap hell for the next few seasons. Buffalo is in need of so much work to improve their franchise, and you know what, maybe we’ll regret it, but we can’t really see them being too hot with Dahlin any time in the near future. After drafting in the top ten for so long, maybe they deserve to be happy about something.
He scored last night, did he not?
