Morning After: A Toff Loss

What a roller coaster of emotions that game was! After it seemed like all hope was lost, the game started. And then the Kings proved why we should be scared, but then the Leafs put on their rally caps for a bit, and nearly came back. Not to mention we saw two(!) Auston Matthews penalty shots, and several instances of Jonathan Quick whining like King Joffrey.
Anyway, we have a lot of goals to cover, so let’s get started.
1-0 Kings
Just a casual pass in the defensive zone before transitioning it up the ice… wait Jake, no. What are you doing?! GET UP!
Yeah, not one of his finest moments. McElhinney could’ve made a save their to bail him out, but we’ve learned not to expect much from him.
2-0 Kings
Cammalleri put the puck on net here, and McElhinney left a rebound for Dustin Brown, who was left wide open in front of the net. Brown tries to skate it around McElhinney, but he follows Brown to cut the angle. Which is great, except Brown then nutmegs him to set up Cammalleri, who has a wide open net.
3-0 Kings
Yeah, this was a brutal turnover by Naz. His defense didn’t help him, as Gardiner and Zaitsev just let the puck go through them, but this wouldn’t have happened if Kadri gets the puck out.
Mr. Doughty, If You Could Kindly Collect Your Jockstrap from Dodger Stadium
Seriously though, Doughty’s jockstrap probably went farther than any ball hit by the Dodgers the other day.
Borg got hands
4-0 Kings
This was just poor penalty killing by the Leafs. Toffoli was left wide open, and he isn’t missing that opportunity, especially when the not-so-athletic McElhinney is the man he’s victimizing.
5-0 Kings
Nice play by Kempe to dance around Zaitsev, and he sets up Toffoli for another easy goal. It was easy, because McElhinney bit REAL hard on Kempe’s forehand deke. Gardiner didn’t look too pretty on this one either.
5-1 Kings
Auston Matthews with no regard for Jonathan Quick’s life on this one. Matthews has the puck on a string, and makes some slick moves to put Quick to rest. That’s the second time in two days that something prominent in Los Angeles sports was humiliated and left for dead (too soon?).
rip jon quick
5-2 Kings
Morgan Rielly with a buzzer beater to make this game a bit more interesting. Note the spectacular stick work from Matthews to get the puck on Rielly’s stick.
jon quick: mad
5-3 Kings
Gardiner had a terrible game, but at least he got this assist! He fires it on net, and Brown (Downtown, not Dustin) tips it past Quick to make it a two goal game.
connor brown tips it in and it's a two goal game* *quick is still mad lmao
ANOTHER AUSTON MATTHEWS PENALTY SHOT!
He didn’t really think this one out that well, but nice try attempting to sneak it shortside past Quick.
matthews v quick penalty shot round two quick just gets a piece of it
This game kind of sucked, but at least they made it interesting. Now the Leafs need to beat the 10-3-1 St. Louis Blues to go .500 on this road trip. Sure would’ve been great if we could’ve banked some of those points in more winnable games early on in these last couple weeks.
Anyway, I’ll leave you on a positive note: here’s Jonathan Quick being a giant baby.
