You’d be surprised, but the Leafs keep finding new ways to ruin everyone’s day.

This one was ugly, folks, as the Leafs dropped a very winnable game by a 3-2 score in Philadelphia last night.

Well, well, well, doesn’t this look familiar?

Two nights after scoring the Leafs first goal of the game on a breakaway, Connor Brown scores the Leafs first goal of the game… on a breakaway. Great composure, good finish, good stick: pull out all the cliches for this one.

That’s nice, but it wouldn’t last long.

Eighteen seconds later… the Leafs make it 2-0? Off Frederik Gauthier? His first of the season? Third goal of his career? Follow the bouncing puck on this one if you can, folks. It isn’t pretty, but heck, they all count the same. For a guy who’s been doubted a lot as an NHL regular, he had a decent game tonight, capping it off with this marker.

Hey, the Leafs entered the third period up 2-0!

Hey, they’d give one away here!

Things happen quite quickly on the play, so bear with everything. The puck scrambles around behind the net, Mitch Marner swoops in and grabs it as he heads up the ice to exit the zone cleanly, avoiding a tie up in the corner…

except he doesn’t get very far.

Nolan Patrick, who from here on out should be referred to as, “The Sneaky Goose”, pulls in and steals the puck away from Mitch. Damn Sneaky Goose.

The Sneaky Goose then scores the Flyers first goal of the night all in one slick motion, and it’s 2-1.

Just under two minutes later, the Leafs decided to, well, Leaf.

Giving up a 2-1 on the PP is never a good idea, and it usually doesn’t work out well when the only fella back there ends up on the floor.

A perfect shot from Wayne Simmonds and the Leafs’ lead was down to, uh, zero.

After the remainder of the third stayed scoreless, we’d head to overtime.

Well, there was a lot of debate about this one. The angle below shows it better, but there’s a clear lack of communication between Nylander and Jake Gardiner here on the overtime winner.

Is it Jake’s fault for not seeing William committing to Travis Konecny?

Is it William’s fault for not commiting to Sean Couturier?

Either way, he’s left wide open.

Not a great look form Auston either, but we’ll save that anger for another day.

For now, let’s just concede that this was, a very ugly loss- the Leafs’ fourth in a row.
