Welcome to another edition of NHL Notebook, where The Leafs Nation’s staff will periodically look into current events and news around the league. It was an eventful Thursday in the NHL, with some former members of the Maple Leafs thriving in their new roles.

Fraser Minten walks it off for Bruins in victory vs. Blackhawks

Fraser Minten is off to a great start with the Boston Bruins, recording the overtime winner against the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday. Minten carried the puck up the ice on a 2-on-1, looking off his teammate Morgan Geekie, before wiring it past Arvid Soderblom for the 4-3 victory.
“I was thinking pass,” Minten said post-game via NHL.com’s Joe McDonald. “(Morgan) Geekie has a great one-timer, so I was looking there and then I saw he was taken, so I tried to throw a little deception in.”
Minten, along with a 2026 top-five protected first-round pick were acquired by the Bruins in a deadline trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, in exchange for Brandon Carlo. The 21-year-old isn’t known for his scoring touch, but he could be in line for a breakout year with an expanded role in Boston.

Sharks’ Alex Nedeljkovic makes comedy of errors in OT loss to Golden Knights

San Jose Sharks goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic made a series of errors that almost defied logic, in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.
It appeared the Sharks were about to fend off the Golden Knights for a victory, but chaos ensued during the final two minutes. Sharks forward William Eklund couldn’t tuck home a game-clinching empty-netter, and the Golden Knights raced up the ice. Jack Eichel tossed a speculative shot towards the net, that took an awkward bounce and rolled past Nedeljkovic for the game-tying goal, with 94 seconds remaining.
Nedeljkovic’s errors compounded in the worst possible way in overtime. In an aggressive attempt to spring his teammates on a breakaway, Nedeljkovic came out to play the puck, but was picked off by Reilly Smith. Shea Theodore picked up the ricochet and tossed it back towards Smith, who tapped it in the empty net for the 4-3 win.
It was truly a night to forget for Nedeljkovic and a tough result for a young Sharks team that would’ve certainly relished a win over the powerhouse Golden Knights.
