Nick Robertson named CHL Sportsman of the Year

The Canadian Hockey League announced on Thursday that top Maple Leafs prospect Nick Robertson has been named the CHL Sportsman of the Year, beating out fellow nominees Jakob Pelletier of the Moncton Wildcats and Seth Jarvis of the Portland Winterhawks for the award.
The award is another feather in Robertson’s cap following a season where he torched the OHL with 55 goals and 31 assists in just 46 games, and comes on the heels of Kyle Dubas announcing that Robertson will be joining the Maple Leafs when training camps are scheduled to open in July.
“I want to thank the CHL for awarding me the most sportsmanlike player of the year,” Robertson said. “I just want to thank my organization the Peterborough Petes as well as the GM Mike Oke, head coach Rob Wilson, and my teammates. And finally I’d like to thank the fans in Peterborough for all of their support and making it an electrifying building every night. I hope everyone stays safe and healthy.”

It’s been nothing short of a meteoric rise for Robertson since the Leafs selected him in the second round of the 2019 draft. Being named the Sportsman of the Year in the CHL is the latest addition to his ever growing resumĂ© and he’ll look to add some NHL experience to his list of qualifications, perhaps as soon as this summer when the Leafs take part in the NHL’s expanded playoff format.
