T-minus eight days until the NHL Draft in Music City.
Translation: Business is about to pick up around the NHL.
Is it me, or does it feel like Brad Treliving has his hand in everything right now? He’s one very busy man. I don’t envy the job.
First thing’s first, after a three-show hiatus, Jay Rosehill was back in the mix for the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked things off by talking about Sheldon Keefe. In case you missed, on the latest edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Elliotte Friedman confirmed that Keefe would be back behind Toronto’s bench next season. Is that surprising? Honestly, not really. Why wait this long, and then pull the trigger? It doesn’t make sense, right? The writing has been on the wall for a while.
Meantime, it sounds like Keefe and Treliving are working together to find a replacement for the departed Spencer Carbery, who’s now the head coach of the Washington Capitals. On Monday, Jeff Marek floated the names Karl Taylor, Todd Nelson, and Mitch Love as prospective Assistant coaching candidates. Furthermore, former Leaf Travis Green was also linked to the job, but it appears he’s headed to New Jersey to join Lindy Ruff’s staff.
Meantime, Frank Seravalli floated T.J. Brodie’s name as a potential buyout candidate for the Maple Leafs. On the surface, it makes a lot of sense as the move would free up $5-million in cap this summer for Treliving to spend as he pleases. Additionally, the cap hit would be $2.5M in year two. I won’t lie, Rosey and I were split on this topic.
For the Betano Wrap Up, I like the OVER 6.5 tonight between the New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners.
We’ll be back on Wednesday at 11 AM ET!
