The Leafs are back on track, baby.
You can make it three straight victories —all on the road, too.
We had some fun to kick off the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Firstly, we discussed the team over at Daily Faceoff listing Max Domi and David Kampf as potential salary cap causalities. For my money, I see Kampf going as the likelier of the two. Personally, I don’t want to give up on Domi just yet.
After that, we reacted to Darren Dreger’s reporting from Thursday night that suggested St. Louis could be open to trading captain Brayden Schenn. Imagine him on the Leafs? Obviously, Rosey has close ties to the Schenn family, so he was all over that. Schenn, 33, has three years left on his deal after this one at $6.5 million per season. Once again, it will come down to what the Leafs ultimately have to give up in a potential deal.
Then, we did a full recap of Thursday night’s 3-1 victory in Seattle. Anthony Stolarz looked super steady making 26 stops for the win in his first game action since December 12th. What a pickup he’s proven to be this season. Wild stuff. Additionally, after missing the game in Calgary, Mitch Marner tallied an assist in his return. With that apple, the pending UFA became the fastest Leaf to notch 500 helpers. He’s a point producing machine! Furthermore, we gave some love for Phil Myers, who scored his first NHL goal since 2022. Also, Bobby McMann potted No. 17 as the Leafs went 1-for-3 on the power play. The penalty kill went 5-for-5, too. All in all, it was a professional road win for Berube and company.
Brought to you by Greta Bar, legendary news anchor and massive Leafs fan Peter Mansbridge dropped by the show once again. He was great. We got his thoughts on Stolarz’s return, Marner’s contract year, the 4 Nations Face-Off, and of course, we asked him about the Star-Spangled Banner getting booed in Canada over the past few weeks.
Lastly, we played another edition of Take It OR Leaf It. We debated if we thought the Leafs will acquire a top-6 centre between now and March 7th, if Toronto will square off with Ottawa in Round 1, and if Canada will run the table at the 4 Nations.
Leafs Morning Take will return on Wednesday at 11 AM ET. Join Zack Phillips and Jay Rosehill as they preview Canada’s 4 Nations opener against Sweden.
