REPORT: Leafs kicking tires on James Wisniewski

Jul 1, 2016, 11:00 EDTUpdated:
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been exploring a few options as far as upgrading their defence, and it seems another one has been added to the mix. According to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, the blue and white have enquired regarding ex-Carolina Hurricanes defenceman James Wisniewski.
The 32-year-old right-handed defenceman was bought out by the Hurricanes yesterday after an illustrious 46-second career with the team. I went into detail on him yesterday; while his ACL injury is a concern, he fits the general needs of the team and is an offensively capable, play driving defenceman.
Given that the alternative appears to be signing Kris Russell, I’m fully in favour of a Wisniewski signing. He’s a much better player and given his circumstances, shouldn’t demand too much term, which is more important than money for the Leafs.
Free agents can begin signing at 12:00 PM EST.
