The waters have calmed once again in Leafs Nation.
What a night in Calgary, what a night for Calgarian (for a hot second) William Nylander. The Leafs finished off the Alberta sweep, which regardless of the season, is no easy task. Most importantly, the offence seems to have made a triumphant return.
At any rate, Carter Hutton filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by giving our initial thoughts on Toronto’s 6-3 victory. Additionally, we had a quick chat about the standings. Everyone around the Leafs seems to be hot, which obviously adds some extra pressure to each game.
Brought to you by Greta Bar, we broke it all down. As mentioned, Nylander was the first star of the performance as he netted his second career hat-trick. He’s up to 33 goals on the campaign. Meantime, Chris Tanev was a beast again as he made his return to Calgary. What a pick-up he’s been! Also, the special teams battle was a big story as well as Toronto went 2-for-4 on the power play. On top of that, they did surrender two PP goals themselves. In fact, Calgary had two lengthy 5-on-3’s, ultimately scoring on one of them. All in all, it was a strong performance for the Leafs, who played without Mitch Marner. The pending UFA missed his first game of the season due to a lower body issue. Toronto’s 22-17-2 all-time without Marner in the lineup.
Then, the legendary Scotty Bowman dropped by the show. He was FANTASTIC. We got his thoughts on Craig Berube, where he thinks the Leafs are at right now, what they should look to add before the deadline, and we talked about the crease a bit, too. Furthermore, we also found out that Mr. Bowman is a big fan of Bobby McMann, whom he met years ago. McMann notched his career high 16th goal against the Flames.
Jay Rosehill will be back in the mix for the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us at 11 AM ET as we preview Toronto’s visit to Seattle.
