The Toronto Maple Leafs are expected by many to be interested in several different players that the Vegas Golden Knights can get their hands on to later flip, and another name has come up tonight in defenceman Matthew Dumba, TheLeafsNation.com has been told.

Dumba, a 22-year-old from Regina, Saskatchewan, was left exposed by the Minnesota Wild on their protection list. Selected 7th overall in the 2012 Draft (just two spots behind Morgan Rielly), Dumba set a career high in goals (11) assists (23) points (34), and penalty minutes (59).

We’ll be upfront here in saying that there is no word on what would be going back the other way, or even if this deal will find its way to completion. The connection appears to be solid, though, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see things progress. Certainly, he’d be an intriguing addition to the team; he’s still young, fits that notable right-handed hole on the right side, and with a cap hit of $2.55 million next season, he doesn’t get in the way of acquiring more talent. George McPhee said earlier this afternoon that he had a conversation planned with Leafs GM Lou Lamoriello today, having not been able to speak with him prior.
