The Leafs have become the king of the trap game: Leafs Morning Take

Well, they weren’t going to go 82-0, right?
Simply put, the Leafs just stink against back-up goalies —regardless of who’s on the roster on a yearly basis. Arvid Soderblom (who?) notched 34 saves to lead the visiting Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-1 victory at Scotiabank Arena on Monday night. Surprisingly, both Auston Matthews and Connor Bedard, whom the game was essentially billed around, were held off the scoresheet on the night. Go figure. It wasn’t for a lack of trying either. Hammer those shot props, folks!
Anthony Stewart made his guest co-hosting debut on the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by discussing Corey Perry’s celebration on the game winning goal before jumping into the meat of the game. As we’ve seen time and time again in the Sheldon Keefe era, it was a tough night at the office against a lottery team. Lather, rinse, repeat. Same old story.
Meantime, Jay Rosehill made a cameo appearance debuting his ‘Rosey’s Rants’ segment, a spin-off of last season’s ‘3 Hits With Rosey.’ As per usual, he brought the heat talking a bit about Toronto’s inability to rise up against inferior opponents. Honestly, it’s pretty weird how frequently they lose to bad teams. And there’s legitimately no answer why it continues to happen.
Additionally, Stewie and I discussed Joseph Woll’s first outing of the season, what’s next for Fraser Minten, and Toronto’s upcoming five-game road trip. The Leafs will open things up on Thursday night in Sunrise against the Panthers.
Rosey will be back in the mix on Wednesday at 11 AM ET as we continue to tee up the roadie and also Toronto’s first meeting with Florida since being handled by them last spring. Also, the incomparable Jeremy Roenick will drop by to share his thoughts on the 2023-24 Maple Leafs.
