The Leafs should bring back Luke Schenn: Leafs Morning Take
By Nick Alberga
Dec 9, 2024, 13:30 ESTUpdated: Dec 9, 2024, 12:34 EST
For the first time since October 22nd and 24th, the Leafs have lost back-to-back games in regulation.
That said, there’s absolutely no reason to overreact, folks.
Speaking of reaction, we kicked off the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take by talking about that wild Juan Soto contract with the New York Mets. In case you missed it, the MLB star inked a 15-year, $765-million contract to go from the Bronx to Flushing Queens. I’m never chirping an NHL player’s contract again. That’s insanity.
After that, we talked some Matt Murray. Over the weekend, the 30-year-old, who’s made six AHL appearances so far this season, was forced to leave the Toronto Marlies’ game due to injury. Unfortunately, that’s been the story of Murray’s career. The dude just can’t stay healthy, and quite honestly, it’s been tough to see.
Then, we broke down Toronto’s weekend. Of course, they fell 3-1 on home ice against Washington on Friday and 5-2 in Pittsburgh on Saturday night. All in all, they didn’t play too bad, but unfortunately, they didn’t get the bounces. It happens. Needless to say, we did discuss the shotty officiating. There were some interesting calls made over the weekend. Furthermore, it’s safe to say that Nick Robertson’s back in Craig Berube’s doghouse. He had a rough one against the Caps. Also, it appears Alex Nylander’s time with his brother on the Leafs will likely be coming to an end very soon. Additionally, we touched on Max Pacioretty’s return to the lineup. The veteran winger logged 14:34 of ice against Pittsburgh skating on the top line with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.
After we got all that off our chests, we debated the possibility of the Leafs trying to re-acquire Luke Schenn. On paper, it would make a lot of sense. You can never have enough depth on the blue line. On top of that, Schenn loves Toronto and Toronto loves Schenn. It’s a great match. We’ll see what happens over the coming months but Nashville’s in a bad place right now. They’ll likely sell some pieces between now and the deadline, and Schenn could end up being one of them.
We’ll be back in the mix on Tuesday. In addition to previewing Leafs and Devils, we’re expected to be joined by a monster guest, so don’t want to miss that one.
