Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz was ruled out of Tuesday’s contest against the Boston Bruins due to an upper-body injury, ahead of the third period.
Dennis Hildeby started the second period for the Maple Leafs. Stolarz allowed three goals on ten shots during the first period. It was the second consecutive start that Stolarz was pulled from.
“He was awesome, I put him in a shit situation,” Stolarz said of Hildeby, after getting pulled during Saturday’s 5-3 loss to the Bruins. “He came in, handled it like a good pro, played well, and just tried to give him confidence on the bench. He’s an easy guy to talk to and he talks back to me on the bench, as well, so kudos to him for coming in, playing a solid game and giving us a chance.”
It’s a tough loss for the Maple Leafs, as Stolarz has taken on the majority of the workload for the Maple Leafs. Joseph Woll is working his way back into game shape, and is expected to start a full game for the AHL’s Toronto Marlies against the Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday. Hildeby will likely start Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings, while the Maple Leafs could also recall Artur Akhtyamov from the Marlies, if injuries continue to pile up. Cayden Primeau was claimed on waivers by the Carolina Hurricanes, after making three starts for the Maple Leafs.
Stolarz missed almost two months of action, after undergoing a procedure to remove a loose body from his knee in December 2024.
It was a tough night overall for the Maple Leafs. Auston Matthews was ruled out of the game with a lower-body injury after taking a hit from Bruins defenceman Nikita Zadorov during the first period.
