Welcome back for another edition of the Toronto Maple Leafs Prospect Roundup here at The Leafs Nation. The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is in full swing, and we’re going to stick with that theme this week, going with a bit more of a rapid-fire style roundup. Let’s get to it!

Easton Cowan

Ebbs and flows are to be expected with just about any rookie, and Easton Cowan is no different. While his level of play has mostly remained consistent through the first couple of months of the season, his role and ice time have fluctuated. After a stint playing alongside John Tavares and William Nylander, Cowan has found himself back in a bottom-six role for the last couple of games, reuniting with Scott Laughton and Steven Lorentz on a line that showed a lot of promise in the preseason. That trio hooked up for a goal early in Saturday night’s matchup against the Edmonton Oilers, with Lorentz springing Cowan and Laughton on a rush with Cowan banging home Laughton’s rebound to tie the game with his fourth of the season. That was about as good as it would get for the Leafs on Saturday night, but at least Cowan continues to look like he belongs.

Ben Danford

When it comes to Ben Danford‘s Christmas list, it’s hard to imagine anything topping a spot on Canada’s World Junior roster. Canada’s selection camp got underway over the weekend, and Danford has lined up on what many are currently listing as the team’s third defensive pair alongside Carsen Carels, a top prospect for the 2026 NHL draft who plays for Prince George in the WHL. Danford is in tough, with Zayne Parekh and Harrison Brunicke ahead of him on the right side, and projected top pick for the 2026 draft, Keaton Verhoeff, playing the right side with Jackson Smith, who was taken by Columbus in the first round of the 2025 draft. Fortunately for Danford, he has been able to lean on Cowan, who played for coach Dale Hunter in London and suited up for Canada in each of the last two World Junior tournaments. With the offensive flair offered by Parekh, Brunicke, and Verhoeff, Danford’s best shot at cracking the lineup is staying true to himself, playing a responsible and hard-nosed defensive game.

Dennis Hildeby

Hildeby has given the Leafs more than they could have hoped for in the absence of Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll, but he was left out to dry against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night. Coming off another solid outing in which he stopped 29 of the 32 shots he faced in an overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks, Hildeby made a number of big saves early on to keep things close against Edmonton, but he was unable to withstand the barrage on his own. Hildeby was tagged for six goals against on just 32 shots before he was pulled midway through the third period, but he was hardly at fault for the lopsided scoreboard. Woll appears close to a return, and could even be back between the pipes against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night, but Hildeby has proven to the Leafs that he is plenty reliable as an option to ensure that neither Woll nor Stolarz gets overworked moving forward.

Artur Akhtyamov

It probably wasn’t how he imagined his NHL debut, but Saturday’s blowout afforded Artur Akhtyamov his first opportunity to get into a regular season game for the Leafs. He relieved Hildeby with just over 10 minutes remaining in the third period and stopped all five shots he faced as he got his feet wet at the NHL level. Akhtyamov will be headed back to the Marlies just as soon as Woll is deemed ready to return, but he was a small bright spot on a bad night for the Leafs on Saturday.

Tinus Luc Koblar

Koblar suited up for his native Norway in the second-tier World Juniors tournament last week, and he was stellar throughout the event. He had a goal and an assist in the final game against Slovenia to help propel Norway to a victory that ensures they will take part in the main tournament next season, and he finished the tournament with five goals and five assists in just five games. The level of competition was much lower than we’ll see at the annual holiday tournament, but players like Koblar are expected to dominate in that setting, and he did just that.

Jacob Quillan

Quillan has been a driving force for the Marlies all season, and this past week was no different. He had a goal and an assist in an overtime win against Laval last Wednesday, added an assist in a losing effort in Friday’s rematch, and picked up another assist in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Cleveland to extend his point streak to four games. For the season, Quillan has four goals and 16 assists in 22 games.

Miroslav Holinka

The Edmonton Oil Kings had just one game this past week, but Holinka made it count. Edmonton ultimately came up short, but Holinka fired six shots on goal and scored a pretty one for his team-leading 15th goal of the season. Through 28 games, the 2024 fifth-round pick has registered 41 points – good for a share of eighth in WHL scoring.

Harry Nansi

Nansi started the OHL season on fire, but he had gone ice cold recently, with just one assist over a nine-game span. He got off the schneid against the Soo Greyhounds on Sunday, scoring a goal and an assist to bring him up to 10 goals and 27 assists through 33 games with the Owen Sound Attack so far this season. Nansi’s playmaking vision and puck skills are apparent, but he will have to continue to improve his foot speed and overall mobility if his offensive talents are going to translate to the next level.

Vyacheslav Peksa

With Hildeby and Akhtyamov holding down the fort with the big club, Peksa has seen an uptick in his playing time for the Marlies. Following a couple of subpar outings, Peksa had perhaps his best game in the AHL against Cleveland on Sunday, stopping 29 of the 31 shots he faced in a 3-2 win. For the season, Peksa has gotten into eight games for the Marlies, sporting a 3.07 GAA to go along with a .901 SV%.
