The Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled forward Bo Groulx from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL (American Hockey League) on an emergency basis, the team announced on Monday.
Groulx had been reassigned to the Marlies on Friday, prior to the team’s game against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, due to the fact that he would have needed waivers to go back down to the AHL had he stayed past his nine-game buffer period. In those nine games with the Maple Leafs, he scored three goals and added five points in nine games, matching his career total points as a member of the Anaheim Ducks in 56 fewer games.
Groulx is the Marlies’ leading scorer this season, with 27 goals and 50 points in 55 games, even despite his trip to the NHL in March. He has quickly earned the trust of head coach Craig Berube and has certainly made a good impression in terms of his chances at securing a roster spot in 2026-27. While the Maple Leafs won’t be headed for playoff hockey this season, Groulx feels good about what he’s been able to accomplish.
“I’m approaching it pretty well,” Groulx said a little over a week ago, following an overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. “I think with a lot of confidence. I know what I can do at this level and I think I’m showing it right now.’
It’s unknown if there’s a corresponding move coming that determined the reasoning for the emergency recall, with further updates likely to come from Berube at the team’s morning skate. The Maple Leafs are about to go on their annual California trip, beginning with a visit with Groulx’s former team, the Ducks, on Monday night. They will then travel to San Jose to face the Sharks on Thursday before wrapping things up in Los Angeles on Saturday.
