What a difference a year can make.
In Tinus Luc Koblar’s case, the forward went from a relatively unknown second-round draft pick during the 2025 National Hockey League Entry Draft to a prospect that Toronto Maple Leafs fans are starting to get excited about.
Koblar’s breakout moment came during the 2026 IIHF World Championships while playing for Norway. In 10 games, Koblar recorded six goals and three assists, helping Norway secure an unlikely bronze medal, the first medal for Norway in IIHF history in any top-division tournament.
“I think I had a good start to the season in the SHL [Swedish Hockey League], and I think I kept going and grew into my game even more towards the end of the year,” Koblar said while speaking to the media at the Maple Leafs’ development camp. “I managed to finish off the year really good at the World Championship. It was a big feeling for our whole country to be able to take a bronze medal in the World Championship.”
In 47 games with Leksands IF in the SHL, Koblar posted eight goals and six assists during his first season in the SHL after spending the previous season in the Swedish Junior League. With Leksands IF being relegated, Koblar will join Rögle BK as he continues to build on the progress he showed in 2025-26.
“I just think I had a good year in the SHL. I knew what I was coming into and just kind of got into my zone, which carried to the tournament,” Koblar said. “I think when you are in your zone, you are able to give better performances.”
That momentum that Koblar built over the course of this past season is something that the 18-year-old is hoping to carry over to this week in Toronto. When asked how he planned to keep his strong finish to the year going, Koblar touched on the past few weeks following the World Championships.
“I had a break after the World Championship there, but I got back into it a couple nights before this camp,” Koblar said. “I have done my theory again, and I just want to bring it out and show the performance at this camp.”
While Koblar is still most likely two seasons away from helping the Maple Leafs at the NHL level, he still wants to put together a strong camp and earn himself a chance to attend the Maple Leafs’ training camp in September to show where his game is at.
“We will see,” Koblar said. “Hopefully I will go to the main camp and prove myself against those guys.”
