Auston Matthews has now scored in all four games he’s returned from injury during his NHL career.

The superstar forward made his highly-anticipated return to the lineup Wednesday evening against the San Jose Sharks after missing the past 14 games with a shoulder injury.

Matthews was hurt during a win over Winnipeg on October. 27 when Jets defenceman Jacob Trouba caught him with a shoulder-to-shoulder check as he tried to cut in front of the net.

Matthews made an immediate impact in his return, setting up a John Tavares power-play goal less than five minutes into the period.

He made sure his return was a memorable one when he sniped a power-play marker of his own with 8:41 remaining in the frame.

Matthews received a nice pass from blueliner Morgan Rielly, but that’s incredible shot accuracy and precision from No. 34. Matthews beats goalie Aaron Dell with a lethal shot over the blocker. Not many goalies are stopping that.

Matthews spoke to Sportsnet’s Shawn McKenzie after the first period. The Leafs took a 3-1 lead into the intermission.

“It sucks watching. A big piece of you wants to be out there contributing and helping the team win games. It’s just nice to be back out there with all the guys on the team.”

Matthews had 10 goals and 16 points through 11 games before the injury.

It certainly didn’t take long for him to get back contributing. What a shot.
