It always hits a bit differently when the Leafs beat the Edmonton Oilers.
What a win, what a game. And what a game-clinching save by Joseph Woll
First and foremost, we kicked off the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing all the chaos from over the weekend. The Leafs needed to find a way to win that game, and they got the job done. On top of that, we talked about the salary cap. In case you missed, the cap’s about to go up substantially over the next three seasons. Needless to say, now’s as good a time as ever to re-watch Jerry McGuire. What a classic!
Brought to you by Greta Bar, we dissected Toronto’s 4-3 win. As mentioned, Woll was the star of the show making 45 stops. Additionally, Matthew Knies chipped in with a goal and an assist in his return to the lineup. Also, the Leafs went 2-for-2 on the power play. You love to see that. Meantime, Oliver Ekman-Larsson left the game with a lower body injury. After the game, Craig Berube didn’t really disclose much on that front only to say he’s considered day-to-day for now. Speaking of which, Jake McCabe was a monster stepping up to log 30:22 of ice-time. He’s been a phenomenal story this season. Additionally, that contract extension will look even better with that cap going up the way it is. Lastly, Rosey wasn’t crazy about Auston Matthews’ game. He broke down the captain’s game on Saturday night, and naturally, that morphed into a conversation about the 4 Nations. In case you missed it, Jani Hakanpaa was ruled out for Finland. But seriously, what’s going on there? Will he play another game for the Leafs? Is he done? It’s been so quiet.
At any rate, be sure join us for the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take for a full Leafs/Flames preview. Also, TSN’s Bryan Hayes is expected to drop by the show.
