The NCAA has crowned its respective conference champions, and attention now turns to the national tournament. Consisting of six conference champions and ten at-large bids, the field is divided into four regional brackets:
Worcester Regional: Michigan State
Sioux Falls Regional: North Dakota
Albany Regional: Michigan
Loveland Regional: Western Michigan
Each region will produce a winner through two single-elimination games, with those four teams advancing to the Frozen Four in Las Vegas on April 9 and 11. The Toronto Maple Leafs will have three NCAA representatives in action this week, with several carrying strong odds of extending their seasons.
Nick Moldenhauer, University of Michigan
Nearing the end of his junior season, Nick Moldenhauer is set to take part in what Michigan hopes will be a deep National Championship run.
After defeating Ohio State, the Wolverines captured their first Big Ten title in three years and now shift their focus to the NCAA Tournament. Michigan will headline the Albany (New York) Regional and open against Bentley in the semifinal on Friday, March 26. A win would send them to the regional final against either Minnesota Duluth or Penn State.
Should they advance, they will pack their bags for Las Vegas to take part in the Frozen Four on April 9 and 11.
As for Moldenhauer, he may turn his attention toward signing his official entry-level contract. The 21-year-old is coming off a career year, posting 28 points (13 goals, 15 assists) and a plus–26 rating in 36 games on a deep Wolverines roster. It marks a strong bounce-back following a quieter sophomore campaign in 2024–25.
Hudson Malinoski, Providence College
Providence earned a bye into the Hockey East quarterfinals after finishing atop the conference during the regular season. Unfortunately, a 3-2 overtime upset courtesy of Merrimack put an end to what was supposed to be a promising run.
Their impressive regular season helped them secure an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, and they will compete in the Sioux Falls (South Dakota) Regional.
Hudson Malinoski and the Friars will face Quinnipiac in the semifinal on Thursday, March 26. The winner will advance to the regional final against either North Dakota or Merrimack, with a berth in the Frozen Four on the line.
Malinoski, an assistant captain, has seen his production dip from a breakout sophomore season. He recorded 15 points (11 goals, four assists) in 35 games this year and now sits around the half-point-per-game mark across his collegiate career. Like Moldenhauer, he will be on professional contract watch.
Matthew Lahey, Michigan State University
Matthew Lahey continues to fight for ice time on a deep Michigan State roster. After earning a bye into the Big Ten quarterfinals, the Spartans were upset by Ohio State. Lahey, a 2024 seventh-round pick, logged just over 10 minutes (10:10) in the loss while serving as the team’s extra defender.
Despite the early exit, Michigan State secured an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament and will headline the Worcester (Massachusetts) Regional. They are set to face UConn in the semifinal on Thursday, March 26, with the winner advancing to face either Dartmouth or Wisconsin.
Lahey has recorded five assists in 17 games as a freshman and is expected to return for his sophomore season in 2026–27, where he’ll look to carve out a larger role.
