Another back-to-back, another split for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
All in all, it was a very encouraging weekend for Sheldon Keefe and company.
Carter Hutton filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by supplying some quick thoughts on what transpired over the weekend. Naturally, with Hutts in the mix, the conversation got to the crease. With 12 games remaining in the regular season, there are still lots of questions to be answered.
Presented by DoorDash, for the Appetizer, we started by dissecting the 2-1 loss in Carolina. Firstly, and most importantly, Joseph Woll was fantastic making 41 stops. Even though they lost, there were lots of positives to grab from the effort. Speaking of which, it was sort of was the good, the bad, the ugly from Nick Robertson. The 22-year-old made some massive mistakes, but then he went out and sniped home Toronto’s lone goal. Predictably, Robertson has been such a polarizing topic in the market lately.

Brought to you by Tim Hortons, we then talked about Saturday night’s impressive 6-3 win on home ice over Edmonton. Bobby McMann and Pontus Holmberg were massive stories. Additionally, Ilya Samsonov was really good until he had to leave the game late with an apparent injury. Martin Jones shut the door. We spent a lot of time over-analyzing that whole situation. League wide, goaltenders are so unreliable these days. It’s wild.
Meantime, thanks to Charm Diamond Centres, we broke down the struggling special teams. With time winding down on the regular season and postseason just around the corner, the Leafs need to figure things out quickly, or it could be another short spring for them.
Lastly, we got to our Great Clips inbox question of the day. Essentially, Hutts was asked about the mentality of a goalie having to come in – the way Jones did on Saturday night – into a pressure cooker situation like that one.
Jay Rosehill will be back for the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We’ll preview Leafs/Devils. Plus, former Leaf and current NHL Network Analyst Brian Boyle will drop by for a chat.
