The Maple Leafs have placed Adam Brooks on waivers, just a day after claiming him from Vegas.
The 25-year-old hasn’t played a game since December 31st after suffering an undisclosed injury.
“That’s a Kyle [Dubas] decision,” said Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe on Thursday morning. “I think the idea behind it is just we didn’t want to lose him initially, and a chance to bring him back was intriguing, especially when you look at what we’ve gone through this season, in particular with our centre-ice depth.”
Keefe added that he doesn’t know what Brooks’ health status is up to this point.
Placing Brooks on waivers will allow Toronto to make room for Timothy Liljegren, who’s currently with the Marlies. The Maple Leafs have been rotating through Liljegren, Rasmus Sandin, and Travis Dermott all season long and there is no point of keeping Liljegren in the AHL when he’s proved he belongs in the NHL.
As of where Brooks might end up, that will be known tomorrow at 2PM ET.
