The Toronto Marlies continue their push to sign just about every available prospect unclaimed by an NHL team, signing Tony Cameranesi and Willie Corrin to one-year contracts this evening.

The two players have been teammates for a number of years, both joining the University of Minnesota-Duluth at the start of the 2012/13 season and playing their full four years of eligibility. Cameranesi was the slightly more impressive of the two, being named to the WCHA all-rookie team in 2013 and putting up a point-per-game pace this year.
The two both signed Amateur Tryouts with the Marlies at the conclusion of their year and got a chance to make an impact while the team was dealing with a wave of Leafs call-ups. Cameranesi played in six games, scoring on April 2nd against Grand Rapids and April 17th against Rochester. Corrin played in four games, getting an assist on April 9th against Syracuse and an assist on an empty-netter in the Rochester game.
Cameranesi is a bit on the shorter side at 5’9 but is considered a dynamic forward with a craving to put points on the board. Corrin is cautious as far as shooting goes but is considered to be a generally responsible presence on the blue line.
Combined with goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo, the Marlies will now have three members of last year’s UMD team on the roster. Interestingly, despite Cameranesi being drafted by the Leafs in 2011, Kaskisuo is the only one with an NHL contract. Theoretically, a team could sign Cameranesi to an entry-level contract and poach him away from the Leafs organization after August 15th, when he officially becomes an unrestricted free agent.
The two players join Mason Marchment, Chase Witala, TJ Foster, Shane Conacher, Marc-Andre Cliche, Colin Smith, Nikolas Brouillard, Cason Hohmann, Eric Faille, Rich Clune, and Ty Stanton in being signed to AHL contracts with the Marlies without NHL rights ownership. Cameranesi turns 23 on August 12th, while Corrin turns 25 two weeks prior on August 1st.
