Marlies sign Reggie Traccitto

The Toronto Marlies continue to shore up their depth chart this morning, signing defenceman Reggie Traccitto to an Amateur Tryout. As well, they’ve assigned Brett Findlay and Eric Knodel to the Orlando Solar Bears.

Who is he?

Traccitto is a twenty five year old defenceman from Oakville, Ontario. A right handed shot, Traccitto doesn’t have a ton of professional experience. He spent time with the London Knights and Niagara IceDogs of the OHL, before going undrafted. Eventually, he had an eight game stint with the Ontario (California) Reign of the ECHL, before deciding to take the Canadian University route.
For the past four and a half years, Traccitto has played for the University of Prince Edward Island. In 120 games, he’s put up 37 goals and 60 assists, and has 54 points in 56 games over the last two years.

Why do this?

I’d have to assume that they’re sending down Findlay and Knodel to get them some more regular ice time, as the Leafs’ deadline moves didn’t leave them with any free roster spots for Marlies call ups. Traccitto in this case plays the role of local warm body; they also get the opportunity to evaluate him in practice a bit, presumably to see if he can help the Solar Bears out a bit.
If Traccitto makes it into the lineup, you’ll be able to see him as early as Friday night, when the Marlies take on Adirondack.
