Save for the two teams in the Stanley Cup Final, the rest of the league is not waiting around to start conducting some offseason business.
In terms of movement, Wednesday was a wild day across the NHL.
That’s where the conversation started on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Most importantly, when are the Leafs going to make their first big move of the summer? That’s a popular question in these parts right now. They need a goaltender, and unfortunately, two came off the board in separate transactions. The pressure is mounting for Treliving and company.
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we dished on the latest headlines. First and foremost, we dissected the Jacob Markstrom trade. All in all, the Devils did well, but it sounds like that’s the only team he wanted to go to. Apparently, the Leafs did talk to the Flames about Markstrom, but obviously, nothing really materialized. So, he’s off the board.
Then there’s Darcy Kuemper, who was shipped to Los Angeles from Washington in a surprise one-for-one in exchange for the much-maligned Pierre-Luc Dubois. Considering Dubois’ track record, that was a shrewd piece of business by Kings general manager Rob Blake.
We also hit on Barclay Goodrow, too. It doesn’t sound like his camp is very happy about being claimed by San Jose. Furthermore, the Sharks were on his no-trade list, so that’s a greasy little move between old pals Chris Drury and Mike Grier.
Lastly, we discussed Jake DeBrusk. As I reported on Wednesday night, there’s reportedly mutual interest between DeBrusk and the Leafs. Naturally, the pathway to DeBrusk becoming a Leaf would involving the Leafs not extending Tyler Bertuzzi —at least you would think.
After that, brought to you by Wendy’s, we played our interview with Leafs forward Ryan Reaves. We touched on everything from Death Row Hockey to his first year with Toronto to his thoughts on Craig Berube coming in.

Carter Hutton & Jay Rosehill will have you covered for the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. In addition to previewing Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final, they’ll play the exclusive interview Hutts and I had with Bruins netminder Linus Ullmark. You won’t want to miss that.
