While we all nervously await the start of the first round series between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Washington Capitals, those who pull the strings in town have done their best to make the whole ordeal as festive as possible. Today, Toronto Mayor John Tory made this proclamation.
Proclaimed temporary holidays aren’t the most uncommon thing in the world (I once volunteered for a charity that got its own day in Edmonton both times I toured with them, which was fun bragging rights), but they’re still cool to see. It ensures that the team knows that everyone in town has their backs, and encourages interest from on-the-fence locals in the team.
Basically, it’s the best move that Tory has made for the Leafs in a long time; certainly a step up from offering Steven Stamkos a hat.
