Viktor Loov wrecks Nikita Scherbak with huge open ice hit

There are a lot of things about Viktor Loov that gain him price from scouts and observers. He’s a strong skater, has offensive instincts, and is a hilarious interview. But nothing gets the attention of anybody faster than his gigantic open ice hits. They’ve come back to bite him in the past, in the form of penalties and suspensions, but tonight’s rendition? Ten out of ten.
Nikita Scherbak is a 19-year-old AHL rookie, picked eighteen spots behind William Nylander in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He’s arguably the best prospect on the Montreal Canadiens, and just came off of an 82 point season with Everett of the WHL.
He might also be fine dust after that hit. We’re not sure. He was slow to get up while Loov continued with his business. The hit was clean, so Loov received no penalty.
Loov has had a decent start to his AHL season. Through eleven games, the 22-year-old Swede has picked up three assists and a +5 rating, while playing with both Stuart Percy and Justin Holl.
The Marlies and St. John’s Icecaps are tied at one after twenty minutes.
