It’s the blockbuster trade that you’ve all been waiting for. Hot on the heels of the deal that sent Cody Franson and Mike Santorelli to the Nashville Predators, the Leafs organization has made their second big splash.

Actually, it’s not all that big. In fact, the trade was technically by the Marlies, and not the Leafs.

The Toronto Marlies traded Carson McMillan to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for Peter Sivak. 

McMillan was signed by the Marlies earlier in the year to give them some two-way depth, and put up a single assist in twelve games. He also played in 22 games for the Orlando Solar Bears, and scored fourteen points in that time.

Sivak is six years older, coming in at the ripe old age of thirty two. He spent most of his teens and twenties playing in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, but seems to bounce back and forth between the ECHL and AHL. He’s most dominant when he plays in the coast, however, picking up 165 points in 160 career games, including 26 in 29 with Stockton this season. He had as single goal through six games with the Sound Tigers this year.

I suppose it gives the Solar Bears a little bit more scoring depth, which is necessary if they’re going to make the playoffs. Ideally, the Leafs organization wants them to make the playoffs, so that way the players that do spend time there are successful. McMillan wasn’t getting the AHL time they expected, so getting an elite ECHLer probably suits the organizational needs better.
