Marner is already breaking team records – this afternoon he tied Charlie Conacher’s franchise record for fastest goal to start a game.
It took just seven seconds for the Leafs to score against the Minnesota Wild this afternoon at the Next Generation game. A ferocious forecheck from the Brown-Tavares-Marner line forced the turnover and Marner was able to backhand it over Devan Dubnyk.
His fourteenth goal of the season was shortly followed by his fifteenth, scoring from a beautiful pass across the net from Tavares. Leafs are currently holding the 2-1 lead against the Wild midway through the first period.
The record was initially set by forward and Leafs legend Charlie Conacher in a game against the Bruins on February 6th, 1932.
