Another day has passed with minimal activity around the NHL.

That said, there’s never a shortage of topics to discuss on Leafs Morning Take.

The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Thursday edition. We kicked off the show by discussing the quiet market. Along those lines, we tied it into the Toronto Maple Leafs. Obviously, Pagnotta’s connected, so naturally, he weighed in on anything he’s been hearing Leafs-wise. Honestly, it really feels like a holding pattern, which will likely be the case for the next several weeks. Of note, Dave did reference that he thinks the Leafs did briefly talk to Morgan Rielly after the season about what he’s thinking. Ultimately, it doesn’t sound like anything’s happening on that front. Weirdly, just this week alone, the Leafs have been linked to Dougie Hamilton and Erik Karlsson, two right-handed power play quarterbacks. When you start to connect the dots, those type of options only make sense if Rielly goes elsewhere.

Meantime, earlier this week, Rosey and I had a chance to spend some time with new Leaf Michael Pezzetta, so we played that interview for everyone. The local product hit on joining his childhood team, market pressure, his role in Toronto, and now being teammates with Ryan Reaves, someone he’s scrapped a few times in his NHL career. Suffice it is to say, Pezzetta is super pumped to be a Maple Leaf!
