Maybe they do need more practice.

Well, they won something tonight!

1st period:

Assists are kind of funny.
Josh Leivo got one on this goal.
Do you see it?
No? Maybe catch a glimpse of it on the start of the second replay?
Well, it counted as Leivo’s first assist of the season in his first game, and we’re going to keep talking about how he got a point, because that’s what bloggers do.
Good start! Unfortunately, that was about the only good thing about this game.
The Leafs gave up two more goals courtesy of Brandon Manning and Jakub Voracek, and they found themselves entering the second period down 2-1. No problem, right? (It was a problem. It was definitely a problem.)

2nd period:

Again, the Flyers scored. We don’t even really want to show it, so we won’t. But, it was Valtteri Filppula who scored the night’s only special teams goal – a power play marker and it was 3-1 Flyers.
Nazem Kadri had a night. Two goals!
The Leafs didn’t score again, however, and that made us sad.
You know who did score?
Claude Giroux, on what many were calling a “perfect shot”. Sadly, we’ve seen far too many “perfect shots” this season in what was yet another rough go for Andersen.

3rd period:

What happened?
Honestly? Not that much.
Our new frenemies at Flyers Nation were a little peeved (understandably) at this hit…
Zach Hyman hit a crossbar which everyone flipped out about because realistically William Nylander set him up right in front of the net with an open scoring chance against the goal after a beautiful spin pass…
The Leafs pulled the goalie with a little bit over three minutes to go….
and then the Leafs lost 4-2, because nothing matters and sports are terrible.

Some thoughts

Kudos to the Flyers, they shot the heck out the puck and didn’t back down.
What was most frustrating about this game wasn’t the final result, losses happen. It’s not even that Frederik Andersen didn’t have his best game of the year.
It’s the Leafs didn’t really have too many “OH MAN THESE ARE THE 2017 LEAFS” moments. They were trailing by two goals for nearly half the game, save for a brief interim.
Maybe it’s an oversimplification,  but it seemed like the Leafs were just kind of… going through the motions throught eh sec. The twitter timeline wasn’t popping, they didn’t really do a whole lot exciting, and it was pretty mf’in meh. Tuesday night effort on a Saturday night game. Oi.

Some good tweets:

Positivity? Or pointing out a trend? (It’s mostly a “don’t freak out yet” tweet, as Richard said in his follow up.)
Sean Tierney on the ball!
Toronto Bag Head with the takes!
See you Monday night at 10:30 ET against the San Jose Sharks, or check back for our goal breakdown in the morning.
