Well, never a dull game in Boston. In a game that had a number of back-and-forth chances throughout the second period, the Leafs… well, they looked a little off tonight, to say the least. Playing against of one of the league’s best teams, the Leafs lost against the Bruins for the first time this year by an ugly… 4-1 score.

Corsi Chart

The Leafs looks like a very spaced out staircase, whereas the Bruins look like a heavy mountain climb. Pick your poison.

1st period

Nobody asked you, Patrice. Because he likes to toy with everyone’s emotions, Patrice Bergeron, (who else?) scored likely his 303rd career goal against the Leafs.
Mitch Marner threw the puck in front of the net… and got his 9th of the year thanks to a little help from Charlie McAvoy.
Heading into the second 1-1 on the road? Well, you could do worse.

2nd period

Well, the Leafs had a power play… on which Tyler Bozak missed this ^, James van Riemsdyk Leafs hit the post once,
… and then Morgan Rielly took a penalty, killing the power play. Though Boston wouldn’t score there, they’d get two more chances in the period… and David Pastrnak and Torey Krug scored on the power play, giving Boston a 3-1 lead. Neither were anything to write home about, but regardless, the Bruins entered the third up 3-1.
Ugly period, to say the least.
By the time the period was over, the Leafs were outshot 24-14. Say what you will about the NHL’s giveaway statistics, but the Leafs were down 15-3 in that category as well. Ugh.

3rd period

TRAVIS DERMOTT WAS INVOLVED IN A POTENTIALLY DIRTY COLLISION WITH DAVID BACKES AND….
then returned a few minutes later. The Leafs were awarded a power play on the incident, but were unable to convert once again.
The Leafs pulled Frederik Andersen with a little under three minutes to go, and…

Overall, the Leafs scored one goal off the stick of a Bruins defender and were heavily outpossessed. After a string of good efforts, this wasn’t one.
