After their defeat at the hands of the Florida Panthers on Sunday night, the Boston Bruins secured second place in the Atlantic Division, and the opportunity to play the beloved Toronto Maple Leafs in first round of the 2017-18 NHL playoffs.
In the final game of the NHL regular season, a goaltending duo of James Reimer and Roberto Luongo, who replaced Reimer after a third period injury, turned aside 40 of 42 shots in a 4-2 victory. The painful thing for Panthers fans see their team finish one point outside of a playoff spot. On the other side of the Atlantic Division bracket, the Tampa Bay Lightning have won the division and will face the New Jersey Devils, who picked up the Eastern Conference’s second wildcard spot.
The Leafs and Bruins get underway Thursday night in Boston, with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
