Toronto Maple Leafs second-round pick Tinus Luc Koblar met with reporters over Zoom on Saturday, where he stated that he was selected by his favourite team. Koblar was selected with the No. 64 pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
“Since I was a young kid, I’ve been watching and cheering for them. It’s a great organization with a great staff,” Koblar said.
“I’ve always cheered for (the Leafs) to win. I also have a picture of me when I was playing at a younger age wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey. It’s my favourite team in the NHL.”
Koblar is a 6-foot-3, 17-year-old centre and one of the youngest players in the draft. He posted eight goals and 21 points in 43 games with Leksands IF of the Swedish Junior League.
“I was growing up watching a lot of Anze Kopitar. I was born in the same country as him, so I’d say Anze Kopitar,” Koblar said.
The 6-foot-3 centre stated that his parents were Olympic athletes, and he hopes to graduate to the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) for the 2025-26 season. Koblar is still many years away from contributing at the NHL level, and could use some time to develop. He will be invited to the Maple Leafs’ summer development camp.
Here’s what Daily Faceoff and The Leafs Nation’s prospect analyst Steven Ellis wrote about Koblar. Koblar was unranked on Daily Faceoff’s Top 120 prospects board.
As a 6-foot-3 center, there’s a lot to like from his physical attributes. He’s not a crushing presence, but he’s competitive and strong enough to win out most individual battles. Mix in good skating and good hockey IQ and I think there’s definitely some late-bloomer potential if he can unlock another level in his offensive game.
“Being more physical, I’d say. Using my body more,” Koblar said, when asked what he wants to improve about his game.
Toronto selected several forwards after Koblar, with Tyler Hopkins at No. 86, William Belle at No. 137 and Harry Nansi at No. 153.
